Villa Thomas ( sleeps 4 )
The villa is accessed via a gate to the pool and small terrace area. Steps lead to the front terrace with table and chairs for outside dining. The views from here look straight into Souda Bay and the Aktriri.
On entrance is an open plan living/kitchen area with dishwasher, microwave, cooker and hob, fridge freezer. There is a door with steps down to the pool and terrace area. The villa has a tv.
This quirky villa has many “nik naks” from the owners working life throughout the world. On the ground level is also a dining area with table and chairs and double doors leading to the terrace. There is a shower room with wc/basin.
Wooden stairs lead to the first floor. On the right is a double bedroom. To the left is a double bedroom with ensuite of bath/shower and washing machine. Both bedrooms have double doors to a shared terrace with fabulous views to Souda Bay.
The villa enjoys a lovely plunge pool to the side.
The access road to the villa/complex from one side is quite steep so guests should be aware of this when hiring a car.
There are several nearby in the village of Almyrida.
Nearest bank at Kalyves.
Taxis are still reasonable price on Crete as fares are all regulated. Taxi service at Almyrida. Phone numbers in the villa.
Health Centre at Vamos 24 hrs.
Almyrida but airport is usually cheaper.
The villa does not have WiFi but most tavernas do.
The ferry from Piraeus on the mainland docks at Souda, a twenty minute drive from Apokoronas. There are two ferries a day.
The better and more reliable repairers are at Kalyves ( nearest ) or Vrysses.
The bus route between Rethymno and Chania is Ktel and it skirts the village to the south and west with stops at Kambia and Plaka.
1 in village plus a mini market selling British goods. There are more very good tavernas at nearby Plaka and excellent food in Almyrida.
Nearest beach is Almyrida. Lovely sand and very safe. All amenities. There is a small cove to the north of the village which is good for snorkelling.
There is PADI diving at Almyrida. Aine Cretan Villa Holidays can arrange a booking for you.
There are sea fishing trips from Georgioupoli or you can fish the estuaries. No river fishing on Crete due to the nesting grounds of the loggerhead turtles. Beach and rock fishing can bring in bream, bass, eels, mullet and snappers. Lots of octopus and sea urchins in the rocky shallows.
There are courts at Almyrida and Souda. Aine Cretan Villa Holidays can book a court for you.
Best shopping is at Chania but Rethymno comes a close second. Shops shut at 2:00pm and open again at 5:00pm. Tourist shops generally stay open all day and close very late.
Crete is well known for some of the best walks in the Mediterranean area. Especially around the Apokoronas. Details in the villa.
There are several gorges a short distance from Kokkino Chorio. Details of coaches ( best way ) to the gorges can be had at Almyrida, small kiosk, or at Georgioupoli where there are several shops.
Tune your radio to 93.2 if you like non stop music in the english language.
There are interesting boat trips from Almyrida and Georgioupoli and there is a pirate ship that leaves Souda every day for a fantastic day out for kids and adults as well.
